Coming Up in September: Boycraft Month!

With Josie off to school and Adelaide still thoroughly enjoying her morning nap, I’m excited to have the opportunity to spend some good boy-time with Jasper.  Sure, he’s okay with the tea parties and paper dolls, and surprisingly cooperative about princess dress-up, but this kid is so naturally a boy.  Cute crafty things that Josie has been so naturally interested in just don’t catch Jasper’s interest the way bugs and trucks do (although I’m fortunate to have a girl who’s also quite interested in bugs and trucks!), so I find myself treading new ground with him, and I’m excited.  Thus, I’ve decreed that September shall henceforth be known as Boycraft Month, and Kiddio shall be populated with ideas fit for boys (and girls, don’t get me wrong, I’m not cuttin’ y’all out!).

So what are you doing with your boys lately?  What creative projects and ideas have you come up with? How is life with your boys?

Like I said, it’s uncharted territory for me, and I have no idea where we’re headed!

Stumbled across your fun sight today! Adding it to my sidebar on my fun blog! Anyway, one thing we did just the other day was to make straw snakes. Come check it our at my Some of This and Some of that blog. Soooooo easy and it was a lot of fun!

Yeah! As the mom of three boys I’m always looking for crafts geared for them (everything always seems to be geared for girls). I can’t to see what you come up with. You can check out my blog to see what we’ve done recently http://jandhclark.blogspot.com

I’ve been a blog lurker for a long time and this is my first comment! :) I’ve had a blast with ideas from stevespanglerscience dot com with my boys (and girl) this summer. We just made great t-shirts with sharpies and rubbing alcohol.

I love the idea of boycraft month! I have two boys of my own and they love crafts but not flowerly girly stuff (most of the time). We recently had a messy art night at our house with some friends and we did ball painting.
I placed a large piece of tag board in an empty baby pool and also give them a ball and some paint. The idea is to dip the ball in the paint and roll or bounce the ball on the paper. Of course since it was messy art night I also encourged them to get in the paint with their hands and feet and paint on the paper.
I have also thought about changing the activity up and having different sized trucks to drive through the paint and on the paper. Of course part of the fun of that would be cleaning the toy trucks in a car wash after your done painting.

Great ideas! I wasn’t so sure about how the whole idea of Boycraft would be accepted–would it be construed as ‘anti-girl’? (not at all my intent!) Are moms of boys just resigned to playing with trucks instead of being crafty? I’m so pleased to know that I’m not alone!

my mom recently came with us to the beach and she brought all of the kids old figurines and miniature knick-knacks to “live” in the sand castles we were making. It was so fun. This idea can easily be carried over to a table top version for a Homemade Sand and Water Box. Supplies: sand (toys r us for $5 or walmart?), flat 13×9 pan or larger rubbermaid version, and lots of GI Joes, trucks, cars, etc. In fact, I may go out and put my idea int action!

As the mom of an almost ten year old boy, I’ve always struggled to find engaging crafts and art activities for him. Most of my crafts on my blog are gender neutral…even if my daughter is the one that’s featured doing them(she’s at that perfect age). I’m so excited for September and to see what everyone comes up with…such a great idea for our overshadowed boys. btw…I just posted and activity that was enjoyed by a boy:)

Having no brothers and my youngest the only boy, I’m in the unchartered territory as well. The older girls are off to full days of school this fall so I need to entertain my little guy myself.

This summer I did a fun project where I froze small fake bugs (bag full from dollar store) and some dinosaurs in a block of ice for him to chip away with his small hammer.

Pics up on my blog http://wishesdreamslove.blogspot.com/ to see all his fun!

I’m looking forward to seeing what ideas come up this September for my boy to do.
